Current professional guidelines recommend manual therapy (spinal manipulation, mobilisation or soft tissue techniques such as massage) for managing low back pain with or without sciatica, but only as part of a treatment package including exercise and patient education (NICE, 2016).
High-quality guidelines consistently recommend the following evidence-based treatment options: reassurance, advice and education (including staying active and exercising), manual therapy in combination with other treatments, and incorporation of exercise therapy/programs for neck pain (Corp et al., 2020).
Cervicogenic headaches are a common but often misdiagnosed cause of chronic headaches. They originate from irritation in the neck's structures, such as joints, discs, ligaments, and muscles. This irritation often refers pain to the head, manifesting as headaches. Manual therapy, combined with exercises to strengthen the neck muscles, can effectively reduce the intensity and frequency of these headaches, leading to improved overall outcomes (Bini et al., 2022).
Not using your joints can cause your muscles to waste and may increase stiffness caused by osteoarthritis. Manual therapy can be effective to stretch, mobilise and massage the body tissues to keep your joints supple and flexible (Runge, Aina and May, 2022) .
Chiropractic care is a trusted and effective approach for not only relieving acute sports injuries but also addressing their underlying causes. Regular chiropractic care can help athletes at every level enhance their performance by improving power, flexibility, stability, stamina, and endurance, enabling them to train harder and reach their full potential.
